"Love Henry" Limited-Edition Fine Art Etching l Camino Sapiens
Titled "Love Henry," this photogravure captures a box truck on a Lisbon street, its side panel graffitied with bold cartoon lettering and a wide-eyed painted face beneath the hand-lettered command: LOVE HENRY. It's one small chapter in a running joke that followed us all over the city — the same name popping up again and again in different corners and different moods, sometimes as an order to love him, sometimes as the more baffled and irreverent "who the f*@% is Henry." Nobody we asked seemed to know the answer, and that mystery was half the fun of it.
For us, of course, the joke landed a little differently, since we happen to have a grandson of our own named Henry — and no city's worth of street art was going to let us forget it. The photogravure's rich, grainy tones and deep shadow give the truck a kind of nocturnal, cinematic presence, the graffiti almost glowing as if the streetlight were weighing in. It's playful and a little absurd, a reminder of the strange, specific things a city decides to obsess over — and the way travel keeps handing you inside jokes you didn't know you needed.
For this hand-pulled photogravure etching, we press ink into fine art paper from a plate we create from the original image. Print is made with Gamblin Bone Black ink on Hahnemühle Copperplate paper.
