**Not sure which photograph to choose?
We’ll review your image before beginning the plate. If we don’t think it will translate well as an etching, we’ll contact you and help you select another photograph. Strong light and shadow, a clear subject, architecture, landscapes and paths often work especially well—but your photograph does not need to be technically perfect.
What happens in the three weeks before dispatch
- Image preparation (3 days) — We'll review your photograph and prepare it for translation into an etching, adjusting tone, contrast, and detail so it captures well in the medium.
- Plate creation (1 week) —Your prepared image is exposed onto a light-sensitive photopolymer plate. The plate is developed, inked by hand, carefully wiped, and printed under pressure on an etching press.
- Pulling the print (3 days) — We run the plate through our press, inking and pulling each impression by hand onto high-quality art paper.
- Ink curing (7 days) — The freshly pulled etching is left to dry and settle, allowing the ink to fully set and stabilize on the paper.
- Shipping — Once cured, your etching is carefully packaged and sent on its way to you.
- Size - Your etching will be delivered on a 20 X 28 cm sheet of Hahnemühle Copperplate paper. The image will be 14 cm on the short side
