Walking Beside the Sea

Beach scene with shadows cast on the sand, rocky coastline, and ocean waves in the background.

We chose the Portuguese Coastal as our first Camino partly because large water speaks to my soul. What a fabulous choice it was with the sea always at our shoulder. Here's how I remember it:

The light off the Atlantic changes the whole day. Sand holds the long shadows of late afternoon; boardwalks lift you over the dunes; the tide decides when you rest. You walk slower, not so much from fatigue, but from wanting to linger.

Salt, shadow, and the wide grey-blue that refuses to hold still--these are the images we brought home.
